Before You

Before You

V1.

I’d never had relationships

Where someone didn’t lie or cheat

And love seemed like a battlefield

But the weapon was deceit

The days were spent preparing

To fend off the looming fight

Or warming her cold shoulder

Just to get me through the night

Chorus

Before you, I never knew, the things that I was missing

You showed me that love was more than just the hugging and the kissing

Before you, I never thought about writing a single song

And you brought things out of me that were buried all along

Before you, I never knew myself even though I thought I knew

And I barely remember who I was. Before You.

V2.

Miscommunicated misunderstandings

Paired with post- traumatic stress

Problems never got discussed

There was only emptiness

The bad days were infernos

And the good days were fire drills

But I always walked on eggsehlls

Waiting for the cards they’d deal.

Chorus

Before you, I never knew, the things that I was missing

You showed me that love was more than just the hugging and the kissing

Before you, I never thought about writing a single song

And you brought things out of me that were buried all along

Before you, I never knew myself even though I thought I knew

And I barely remember who I was. Before You.
