This Too Shall Pass

This Too Shall Pass

V1

I wore some canvas tennis shoes and some thrift store jeans

Railroad had been on strike and times were pretty lean

Never knew that we were poor and everything seemed fine

Didn’t faze me and my friends standing in the free lunch line

The best ballgame in town in our front yard every day

Every kid in the neighborhood gathered there to play

Slept with my pillow in the window because we had no A.C.

So hot we lived down in our basement In the summer of 80

Chorus

Mom mixed the Frothingslosh and Dad drank Meister Brau beer

And 1979 seemed like a helluva year

Depression or recession across the entire nation

Halfway round the world in Iran there was a hostage situation.

Dad chased railroad work and we moved around

But I just couldn’t wait to get back to my hometown.

When the tough get going rough days never last

and with faith over fear this too shall pass.

V2.

We were rich in family and we were rich in friends

And we kept plugging away until we reached the end.

When Dad wasn’t running trains he harvested fields of wheat

He did anything he could to get us back on our feet

Looking back even the worst of times seemed like the best.

And even through the struggle we knew we were blessed.

Everyone leaned on one another and that’s the way it should be

And when you struggle together you build community.

Chorus

Mom mixed the Frothingslosh and Dad drank Meister Brau beer

And 1979 seemed like a helluva year

Depression or recession across the entire nation

Halfway round the world in Iran there was a hostage situation.

Dad chased railroad work and we moved around

But I just couldn’t wait to get back to my hometown

When the tough get going rough days never last

and with faith over fear this too shall pass.
