V1.

I squinted and flipped my shades down

Sun was bright behind her frame.

I’d never seen her here before

But I had to know her name

Sent a note to her seat from the dugout

Asking for a number swap

258-2491

From the shortstop

Chorus

It was a short stop for drinks and dinner

A short stop for dancing and wine

A short stop at Jared to find a ring

‘Cos I had to make her mine

A short stop down on one knee

With a question I had to pop

With tears in her eyes she said yes

To a shortstop. To a short stop.

V2.

For years she watched from the wives seats

She never missed a game

And then one day gave him a son

A shortstop with junior behind his name

As he played and grew they both knew

That he’d make it to the top

And a short stop became a lifetime

Watching their shortstop.

Chorus

It was a short stop for drinks and dinner

A short stop for dancing and wine

A short stop at Jared to find a ring

‘Cos I had to make her mine

A short stop down on one knee

With a question I had to pop

With tears in her eyes she said yes

To a shortstop. To a short stop.

Chorus

It was a short stop for drinks and dinner

A short stop for dancing and wine

A short stop at Jared to find a ring

‘Cos I had to make her mine

A short stop down on one knee

With a question I had to pop

With tears in her eyes she said yes

To a shortstop. To a short stop.
