V1.

My old house is barely standing back In my neighborhood.

And those historic downtown storefronts aren’t looking very good

No Friday night lights glowing on the south end of town

They moved the football field out behind the new school now.

Chorus

What if what I remember was better than the life I lived.

This old town was always full of memories to give

Things change yet they stay the same, and the more that I see

I realize friends and family are what made this home for me

V2.

A tornado took the drive-in and turned it into dirt

The field where the old school house stood now holds a Baptist Church.

They took out all the high dives down at the swimming pool,

But the old soda fountain in the pharmacy still looks pretty cool.

Chorus

What if what I remember was better than the life I lived.

This old town was always full of great memories to give

Things change yet they remain the same and the more I see

I realize friends and family are what made this home for me

Bridge

A trip back in time

A blast from the past

Now all my relatives are gone

So this just might be my last.

Chorus

What if what I remember was better than the life I lived.

This old town was always full of memories to give

Things change yet they stay the same, and the more I see

I realize friends and family are what made this home for me
